For three decades Harlan Jones has protected his clients in complex business, environmental, employment, and construction litigation. These clients have included Reebok International, Marriott Corporation, Winnebago Industries, Citicorp, D.R. Horton, Inc., Birtcher Development entities, LTM, Inc., the cities of Tigard, Scappoose, Vernonia, and Milwaukie, the Port of Astoria, Balzer Pacific Equipment Co., Oregon Association of Hospitals, Bay Valley Foods, LLC, Seattle School District 1J, and Dyno Nobel, Inc. He has handled hundreds of cases in state and federal courts, many involving multi-million dollar disputes, and has obtained successful resolution of many of these in mediations and arbitrations. Harlan obtained for one of his business clients what was at the time the largest jury verdict in Oregon history after a month-long trial. The trial judge, who had been on the bench for 20 years and later became Presiding Judge for Oregon's largest county, said on the record that it was the best-tried case he had ever seen.
Harlan has a unique ability to view litigation from a business point of view because for eight years he served as General Counsel and then Vice President for Legal Affairs for a highly successful insurance company. Harlan actively participated in the executive business management of that company and oversaw the company's legal affairs. He was directly responsible for the company's 100-person, in-house law firm and for the expense those legal services created. Harlan therefore understands that legal matters, including litigation, are business concerns. He has a personal AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
